Weather in Lagos Portugal

The weather in Lagos and the Algarve region of Portugal is glorious all year round. With long, sunny summers, mild winters and over 300 days of sunshine each year, it’s the perfect all-year round destination.

The months of July and August are typically the driest and hottest. Temperatures during these months are usually around 30°C, with an average of 12 hours of sunshine a day. The light Atlantic breeze provides a refreshing cool down from the summer heat, both during the day and evening. The sunny days continue into the autumn months, which gives Lagos a longer tourist season.

The winter months from November to March can be the rainiest time of the year, although there is every likelihood that you will get plenty of 'beach days’ and glorious sunshine. The mild winters make the Algarve one of Europe’s premier golf destinations, when courses in the UK are waterlogged and unplayable.

This is a nice quiet time to visit Lagos, and the perfect opportunity to escape the cold UK winter and experience traditional Portuguese culture. Although this is the rainiest time of the year, there is every likelihood that you will get plenty of 'beach days’ and glorious sunshine. Don’t expect sunbathing temperatures, but you can usually stroll around in short sleeves. In the evenings you will need a fleece or jacket as it gets cold.

Unlike other tourist resorts, Lagos is a traditional working Portuguese town and never 'closes down' as such. Although some of the town’s restaurants close for their holidays, there is still a huge choice and the staff will spend that extra bit of time to have a chat.

Christmas is a magical in Lagos. The town, palm trees on the avenida, fortress and castle walls are decorated with lights. The fireworks down by the Lagos waterfront on New Year’s Eve are spectacular.

Mid/Golf* Season

April/May/October

A pleasant time with warm weather, plenty of colourful fauna and greenery. The perfect time to visit to avoid the summer crowds whilst taking lazy beach walks and exploring the area’s unique culture. Evenings are usually cool but comfortable with a jumper or light jacket.

*Although the Algarve is an all-year round golfing destination, the golf high season is typically from Feb-May/Sep-Nov and the low season is Jun-Aug/Dec/Jan.

High Season

June/September

Our favourite time to visit as the town and beaches are lively, but not too crowded. Glorious hot weather but never too hot which makes it a popular time for those with toddlers, or those who do not like it too hot.

Peak Season

July/August

As to be expected Lagos is very busy during these months as those who are tied to school holiday dates visit with their families. The weather can be very hot, although the light Atlantic breeze provides a refreshing cool down from the soaring summer heat. The evening heat is pleasant and not ‘stuffy’ as you get in other European destinations. A vibrant time to visit and make new friends.
